President of Soi Dog Foundation USA
Janis has been involved in all aspects of animal welfare for over 40 years. From serving on several national boards of directors, to orchestrating fundraising events, to planning and attending protests, she has strived to be a voice for the voiceless.
After graduating from the University of Texas, Janis began her career in medical research at Baylor College of Medicine and continued at Duke University. She also had a 20-year career as an Actors' Equity musical theater actress, performing throughout the United States.
It was while reading an article about the dog meat trade that Janis was first introduced to Soi Dog Foundation. She sent an email requesting more information, not expecting to hear back. When co-founder John Dalley responded personally and answered every question thoroughly, she knew this was an exceptional organisation she could trust and support, and her admiration has only grown over the years. To Janis, being a part of Soi Dog Foundation is the most rewarding work she has done; she is honored to represent 'an organisation with such integrity, transparency, and dedication to ending animal suffering'.
Janis lives in southern Oregon with her husband Jeff, who is also a huge Soi Dog supporter. They are the humble servants to Harper, their spunky, resilient poodle mix who was rescued from a hoarding situation with 140 other dogs.
